Researchers from NIMHANS and IISc Bengaluru have identified the brain circuits responsible for long-term childhood memory storage. Using brain imaging and CRISPR-modified neurons in mice, they showed that emotionally charged memories activate a distinct hippocampal-limbic network. This discovery can aid in treating PTSD and childhood trauma disorders. The research has been published in Nature Neuroscience. The team is now developing AI-guided therapy tools based on memory triggers. This marks India’s significant contribution to global neuroscience research.
